Pukka Herbs - 2022 impact report review
I find myself raving about Pukka Herbs’ 2021 impact report at least once a week. So when they published their 2023 report, I couldn't wait to read it!
Once again, they have definitely set the bar high! Well done Georgia Phillips and team 😊
As always, the report’s design is a joy. And chock full of data - all of it presented in an easy-to-understand, visually appealing way.
👍🏻 3 things I like...
1. CLEAR IMPACT VISION & STRATEGY
They are clear on the dent they want to make on the world. And have a strategy for doing that. This framework gives a clear rationale for everything they’re doing and provides the structure for the report.
Page 5 is an overview of this vision and strategy – and is exactly the same as last year’s report, demonstrating a consistent approach to delivering long term impact.
2. IMPACT SUMMARIES
The report’s structure aligns with the pillars of Pukka’s impact strategy. At the beginning of each report section there is a table which clearly sets out strategic goals and progress against the strategy during the year. There are lots of SMART objectives in here.
I like these impact summaries a lot.
3. AN OBJECTIVE RE DEMONSTRATING COMMERCIAL SUCCESS
In the ‘force for good’ section of the report, they have a goal of “Demonstrating Pukka is commercially successful and a force for good B Corp”.
If we want to achieve mass adoption of the principles of B Corp / responsible business then it’s really important that we can demonstrate that this also makes commercial sense. Otherwise, ‘good business’ will remain a niche, at least for the foreseeable future / in the current system.
❓3 questions it raises
1. WHAT’S THE MISSION COUNCIL?
On page 3 there’s a quote from the Mission Council Chair. I like the sound of the Mission Council and would love to hear more about it.
NB there is a page on Pukka’s website but I’d love to hear more about how this Council fits into the governance framework at Pukka.
2. WHAT WILL BE THE IMPACT OF THE NEW PARENT COMPANY?
Throughout the report are references to Pukka having a new parent company and on p37 they say they’re “navigat[ing] these changes”. I’m curious to see what happens. In particular, what is the impact on Pukka’s governance?
3. WHAT NEXT?
There are clearly ambitions for what Pukka wants to achieve next with strategic goals through to 2025 and a net zero roadmap to 2039. That said, I’d love to see objectives / focus areas for 2023 together in one place in the report.
