x+why - 2022 impact report review
This week’s impact report is from x+why.
👍🏻 3 things I like...
1. GOLDEN KPI
I like that they’ve worked out what they call their ‘golden KPI’ and the three elements that make this up – if they can shift these metrics then they will be making progress against their overall mission.
Because these metrics determine how they make impact, they form the structure of the report.
2. BRINGING IN VOICES OF STAKEHOLDERS
Throughout the report they bring in the voices of their stakeholders. For example showcasing their members and profiling employees. This helps bring what X+Why offers and the impact it has on these key stakeholders to life.
3. CHARITABLE DONATIONS LEVERAGE THEIR ASSETS & CAPABILITIES
They give charity discounts, subsidised space and free meeting and event space to charities. The are able to do good through what they do and what they’re good at, leveraging their assets and capabilities to do good.
When a business can do this, they tend to have a far greater impact than through just financial donations.
❓3 questions it raises
1. WHAT’S NEXT?
What are their objectives for next year? I’d love to see some specific, measurable objectives for each area that can form the basis of next year’s report.
2. HOW DID THEY DECIDE ON THE 2% BENEFIT FUND?
They have a 2% benefit fund where employees get an additional 2% of their salary to spend on benefits of their choice.
I’m curious to know why they decided to structure it in this way, which means higher paid employees will get access to more benefits than lower paid employees.
3. WHY NET ZERO?
I like that they’ve spent time understanding and taking steps to reduce their carbon emissions. But I’m confused by them saying they’ve achieved net zero emissions as the text and numbers don’t seem to back up this statement, especially since they recognise they have a way to go in understanding scope 3 emissions.
